Chubby Bunny Farm

Letter from the Farmers

Thank you to all the farm members who have enjoyed our produce in the past. We hope that you will decide to join us for another year. Early registrations are essential so we can pay our bills during the winter and spring for all those essential production costs like seed, compost, soil mix, and propane for our greenhouse.

Here at Chubby Bunny we are busy making plans for the season ahead  - ordering seeds, equipment and supplies as well as crop planning and budgeting. We have hired a great new crew to assist us this year and will have new fresh faces out in the fields working with Dan. We added a fourth apprentice position to assist us with meeting the full needs of the White Plains CSA. As in the past, this year we will be providing produce to three Community Supported Agriculture Projects: at our farm in Connecticut, in Manhattan and to you in White Plains.

Chubby Bunny Farm is a small family farm in Northwestern Connecticut. The farm is 50 acres of tillable land, pasture and hay land.  We currently use about 10 acres for sustainable vegetable production.  The remaining land is used for permanent pasture, hay fields, greenhouses and barns. We believe diversity is important for the total health of the farm.  To complement our wide variety of vegetables we raise laying hens, a few pigs and keep a family cow and her companion.  We have also planted an apple orchard that should begin to bear fruit in a few years. The farm is protected by a Nature Conservancy conservation easement.  This ensures that the land will remain farmland and protected from development in perpetuity.

For now, we are really enjoying all this snow. We relish this time that the farm is resting under a deep blanket of winter by doing as much snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding and snow cave making as possible. It is nice to have a real New England winter again. But, before we know it, spring will be here. We hope to share this year's harvest with you.
